State rates in force 1 July 2026; checked 18 October 2026.
Only the state base rate is a preset. Cities, counties and special districts add their own rates, and the average shown is population-weighted, not the rate for your address. Most states tax by the buyer's delivery address (destination sourcing); a minority use the seller's location (origin sourcing) for in-state sales, so the right local rate depends on the state. Many states run short sales-tax holidays, and what is exempt (groceries, clothing, medicine, digital goods, services) differs by state; use the exempt switch for items your state does not tax.
This is a calculation aid, not tax advice. Online sellers and businesses should confirm rules with the state revenue department.
