How it works
Calculates exact age in years, months, and days between a birth date and a reference date. Calendar age is not a simple division of elapsed days, because months have unequal lengths and leap years add a day.

Years = ΔY − (1 if the birthday has not yet occurred this year)

Worked example
Inputs: Born 1996-11-20, evaluated on 2026-08-17
- Year difference: 2026 − 1996 = 30
- Birthday (20 Nov) has not occurred yet in 2026, so subtract 1 → 29
- From 2025-11-20 to 2026-08-17 is 8 months and 28 days
Result: 29 years, 8 months, 28 days
Notes
- Someone born on 29 February has no birthday in common years; most jurisdictions treat 1 March as the legal anniversary.
- East Asian age reckoning traditionally counts a person as 1 at birth, which differs from this calculation by one or two years.
